Josone Park, a must-see when

Josone Park, a must-see when in Varadero

Crowned second best beach in the world for 2019, Varadero mostly welcomes visitors who wants to idle by the sea. Besides, most of the buildings on the peninsula are resorts that suggest marine activities. However, Varadero is home to a beautiful place unbeknown to many: Josone Park.

An oasis in between beaches and resorts

When planning your trip to Cuba, be sure to make a few days for Varadero in your schedule. Many would recommend only a day since it’s possible to do round trip from Havana. Another reason is also that there is mostly a beach to see there – 13 miles of it to be more accurate. However, you can’t spend only a day in the Hicacios peninsula when you know about Josone Park. Located in the southern of Varadero, the oasis the perfect place to enjoy a day surrounded by nature. A large gateway guarded by life-size statues of The Beatles will lead you into the seemingly out of the world place. Couples and families will love walking around the tropical vegetation of Josone Park – which is also home to colourful wildlife. Everything in sight is pleasant: botanical flowers display, lawns framed by tall palm tree, climbing pants, birds such as ducks, macaw parrots and roosters. Between your strolls, you can sit in one of the four restaurants of the park. The choices range from delicious local meals to exquisite Italian or Creole food. You can also grab a drink at a kiosk to quench your thirst. They usually sell sugar-cane juice. Drinks are also available in a The Beatles inspired bar in the evening.

Josone Park, a must-see when

A relaxing and eventful park

Aside from a nice place for strolling and enjoying local and international cuisine, Josone Park is big enough to be host to a manmade lake – restaurants have several sitting areas with view of it. The park actually occupies 22 acres on the Varadero peninsula. Set in the northern edge of the site, the lake’s tranquil water can be glided across by a rowboat or a paddleboat. You can also just sit at its banks and let serenity fill you. The lake is not made for swimming but if you want to take a dip, there is an open-air pool in the park. However, it’s a small one. There is also a miniature golf course to test your golfing ability. Entertainment is also always au-rendez-vous when in Josone Park. Newlyweds and local girls love to go to the site for a photoshoot and in the evening, well-known Cuban bands offers free performances at the bar. The park closes at midnight and doesn’t have accommodations so you might need to book a hotel or find a villa for rent for holiday beforehand. Also, there is a lot to see in Josone Park and walking around the 9 hectares site within opening hours can be tiresome. You can tour it aboard a toy train to save energy. Bear in mind that only the entrance is free. You therefore have to pay for the ride as well as for the swimming pool, the golf and any other rentals.

Vedado  is a central business district and urban neighbourhood in the city of Havana, Cuba. Vedado is a more modern part of the city than the areas to the east, developed in the first half of the 20th century, during the Republic period. In 2016 it was described by one commentator as the city’s “most affluent” section. The main street running east to west is Calle 23, also known as “La Rampa”. The northern edge of the district is the waterfront seawall known as the Malecón, a famous and popular place for social gatherings in the city.
