Cienfuegos is a city of Cuba, capital of the province of the same name. It is located in the Majagua peninsula, on the shore of Jagua Bay. This city is known as the Pearl of the South. In July 2005, the historic urban center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The streets of Cienfuegos were originally drawn forming grids. The eclectic architecture of the city preserves abundant neoclassical decoration. It is one of the cities with the best layout in Cuba, with wide and straight streets, promenades and parks (the most important is the “José Martí”), of modern and ancient buildings that fully respond to the surrounding exterior. Next to the park “José Martí”, located in the center of the city, are the most important buildings, including the founder’s house, the Town Hall, the Cathedral church and Terry Theater. At the central square of the Park José Martí, we find the image of Che Guevara. Cienfuegos has one of the largest hotel complexes in the area, the beach of Rancho Luna, located near the Bay of Jagua. There is also a wide artistic movement where many galleries stand out. One of them is the Marilyn Monroe Workshop Studio located on Prado. The space shows the work of young talented visual artists. The objective of these young men is to try to rescue the academy´s peculiarities. The Paseo del Prado stands as an interesting walk with the Statue of Benny Moré (Cuban singer and composer, nicknamed as El Bárbaro del Ritmo and El Sonero Mayor of Cuba) in full size, in memory of Benny Moré walking the streets of Cienfuegos.
